Philippines celebrates UN Day
Different schools, government agencies and other offices in the Philippines join the worldwide celebration of the United Nations Day on October 24, 2007. The United Nations was officially named in 1945, when the Charter had been ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and a majority of other signatories. Thus, UN Day is annually celebrated on this date.

Some schools in the Philippines held their traditional UN celebrations such as Miss United Nations wherein students wear national costumes of the UN member countries. So far, there are 192 member countries in the United Nations. Other offices meanwhile commemorated the history of UN and its importance in global peace and order.
The Philippines was one of the original signatories to the United Nations Charter where there are 51 countries. This Charter emphasized the importance of human rights, which is based on the dignity of the human person.
