Glorietta bombing kills 8, over 100 wounded

A destructive explosion left 8 dead and over 100 wounded in Glorietta Mall in Makati on October 19, 2007. Police reports confirmed that a bomb cause the explosion which was initially reported as an accident caused by a liquefied petroleum gas tank from the Luk Yuen Noodle House at the first level of the Glorietta 2 mall.

Shopping mall security guards said that the blast actually emanated from a nearby delivery area. According to reports, the connecting bridge from the Glorietta 2 to the Park Square shopping mall sustained heavy damage. The authorities are still undergoing investigation of the incident which they say maybe connected to a terrorist activity.

The victims were rushed to Makati Medical Center and Ospital ng Makati. The owners of the shopping mall promised to provide financial assistance to the victims. Reports on television showed that the explosion created a thick cloud of dust near Glorietta 2. Survivors said that they heard a powerful blast, and next is the roaring sound of collapsing ceiling.

The tragedy had lead to the closure of Glorietta 2 as investigations are still on going. Glorietta 1, 3 and 4 will continue their regular business hours as well as other establishments near the area. Securities were heightened in other areas within Metro Manila.
