LRTA executes bomb preparedness drill
The Light Rail Transit Authority performed its bomb preparedness drill at the LRT line 2 Station in Araneta Center-Cubao last October 6, 2007 to ensure the readiness of their personnel in those situations. The drill lasted for an hour and a half that includes simulation of bomb explosion inside a train cab with a mass casualty.
For past three years, the LRTA has been conducting this drill to ensure public safety inside the LRT premises. It will be recalled that in December 30, 2000, a bomb exploded on a train in LRT line 1 along Rizal Avenue leaving injured persons and casualties. This situation made the LRTA to come up with a strategic plan of action in saving lives and properties.

Among the drill participants were personnel from the Philippine National Red Cross, the Department of Health, the National Disaster and Coordinating Center, the Department of Transport and Communications’ Office of Transport Security, the Department of Interior and Local Government’s Bureau of Fire Protection and the local government of Quezon City.
The drill’s objectives include: maximize use of available resources, prompt care to victims, ensure emergency and hospitalization services, and return to routine operations as soon as possible.
