A peaceful All Saints' Day

Filipinos enjoyed a long-weekend having November 1 and 2 declared as non working holiday. The Philippines celebrated All Saints Day on the first day of November. Authorities said that the observance was generally peaceful. It has been a tradition that families return to their provinces to clean the tombs of their loved ones and to pray for them.

Traffic situations were lighter compared to previous years. Bus operators said that they did not expect a heavy load of passengers because some of them already went to their provinces prior to the barangay elections, October 29, which was also declared as a holiday.

The observance of All Saints’ Day is used to be a regular holiday in the Philippines but was changed to a non-working holiday through an Executive Order issued by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Also, Christian faith observes All Souls’ Day the following day.
