Two long weekends on set for the holidays

Filipinos will enjoy two straight long weekends in celebration of Christmas and New Year's Day as the President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declared non-working holidays for December 24 and 31. Both dates fall on a Monday prior to the regular holidays December 25 and January 1 that both fall on a Tuesday.

The holidays were declared to give time for the people to spend time with their families with a long time of days off. With the four holidays falling on a Monday and Tuesday, the workforce would have an effective four days off per week in celebration of the holiday season.

Although some employees who still need to work inspite of the holidays will be given extra compensation as the law states as a benefit for the time spent in the declared holidays.
