Bb. Pilipinas has three new queens

Three new queens were crowned in the recently concluded Bb. Pilipinas pageant. The prestigious competition was held at the Araneta Coliseum last March 8, 2008. Winners were Patricia Fernandez (Bb. Pilipinas-International), Jennifer Barrientos (Bb. Pilipinas-Universe), and Janina San Miguel (Bb. Pilipinas-World) and they will represent the Philippines in the upcoming Miss International, Miss World and Miss Universe pageants respectively.

Patricia Fernandez, who was named Bb. Pilipinas-International, earlier won the special award as Ms Natasha. This 22-year-old speech communication graduate from the University of the Philippines reportedly fainted backstage before the announcement of the winners. Jennifer Barrientos, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe, was a tourism grad from the University of Sto. Tomas. Least expected to win after a disastrous question-and-answer moment was Janina San Miguel, as Bb. Pilipinas-World. The Miss University of the East first runner-up buckled, messed up and gave in to the pressure of the Q&A portion, eliciting boos and heckling from the audience. She continuously utterred apologies to everyone for being a "pageant first timer" and finally made it out by answering in Tagalog. Janina was the Best In Swimsuit and Best In Long Gown, a stunning form that made her win the crown.

Served as chairman of the board of judges was Quezon City Mayor Sonny Belmonte. Other members of the panel include U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney, Japanese Ambassador Makoto Katsura, Philippine Ambassador to Spain Joseph D. Bernardo, United Breweries Group and Kingfisher Airlines Chairman Dr. Vijay Mallya, Chateau Petrus's Jean Moueix, Entrepreneurs School of Asia founder Ms. Vivienne Tan, Sofitel Philippine Plaza President Oscar Salvacion, Marimar's Marian Rivera, actor Dennis Trillo, and Chris Tiu.

Paolo Bediones hosted the event with co-host Bb. Pilipinas Universe 1994 and actress-TV host Charlene Gonzalez.
