Government identifies five Manila areas as piracy havens
The Philippine government named five areas in Metro Manila as "notorious places" for selling pirated products. The areas were Binondo, Greenhills, Makati Cinema Square, Quiapo and Metrowalk. The inter-agency efforts against piracy revealed that most raids were conducted in the fiove places. Most of the mentioned spots were laready in the list since 2005.
Estimated values in the confiscated goods reached almost PhP2.92 billion. More than six million pirated items were reported in 2007. Also, the Bureau of Customs took in possession four replicating machines and some 37 container vans.
In spite of this good performance, the government is still calling on everyone to participate in the anti-piracy campaign. It also a challenge for the local government of these spots to remove their areas in the "notorious place" list of piracy marketing.
Pirated goods and counterfeit products are still sold and the government makes all the efforts to eradicate these industries.
