Firecracker injuries welcome the new year

The celebration of welcoming 2008 is not as good to some families with injured members because of firecracker-related incidents. It has been a tradition to use firecrackers in welcoming the new year and it has also been a tradition of having accidents and other injuries in the annual celebration.

A fireworks stall in Bocaue, Bulacan was recently burned into ashes after a cigarette accidentally triggered the explosion of firecrackers that lead to conflagration of ten stores along the area last December 31, 2007.

As new year come along, there are also reported incidents of wounded individuals rushed in several hospitals after having injuries caused by different firecrackers. The victims said they are not aware that the used firecracker, which they think are defective, exploded into thier hands after picking it up from the ground. Official numbers of the victims were released by the Department of Health and Philippine National Police. Authorities claimed that the incidents dropped compared to previous years' celebration.
